The Third Presence: Human-Animal Attachment and Embodied Safety for Patients/Clients
Date/Time
Date(s) - Wed, Sep 15, 2027 MDT
10:00 am - 11:30 am
Presented by Alison Leslie, LCSW, SEP, and Sanjoni Sethi
The human-animal bond offers a unique doorway to embodied safety and the felt sense of attachment, connection, and care that is often missing for those who have experienced complex trauma. In this webinar, we will introduce Resource Development and Installation (RDI), designed to intentionally incorporate a therapy or companion animal as an attachment figure and source of nurturance. We will explore how relational experiences with animals may support access to felt safety, co-regulation, and adaptive memory networks in Phase 2 of EMDR. Throughout the webinar, we will explore research on the importance of embodied safety, how the human-animal bond has historically supported healing, and ways to ensure the therapy animal’s sentience is honored in this work. A short demo will be provided on how to use this work with your own clients or participants.
