Protecting the public from pet-associated zoonoses (from households to healthcare facilities)
Date/Time
Date(s) - Wed, Dec 9, 2026 MST
10:00 am - 11:30 am
Animal contact has many established health and social benefits for the public. Additionally, these benefits have been observed in other settings, such as animal-assisted therapy in healthcare facilities. However, animals, including pets, also serve as a source of disease (zoonoses). Best practice prevention methods are established for people at increased risk for pet-associated infections, including individuals in healthcare facilities. This talk will review key pet-associated health risks and prevention methods to reduce zoonoses. Animal, person, interaction type, and setting factors will be discussed to help tailor prevention approaches.
