Healing Hearts: Core Themes in Volunteer Therapy Dog Visiting — A Story-Based Discussion
Date/Time
Date(s) - Wed, Oct 20, 2027 MDT
10:00 am - 11:30 am
Presented by Ellen Finnie
Join a story-driven conversation with long-time volunteer therapy dog instructor and handler Ellen Finnie, author of Healing Hearts: How Therapy Dogs Change Lives, exploring how therapy dog partnerships can create connection, comfort, and transformation—not only for the people visited, but for the handlers and dogs themselves. The discussion will draw upon stories from the volunteer therapy dog handlers in Ellen’s book and the issues those teams have faced, including finding the right fit for their dogs, advocating for their dogs, making the difficult decision to retire their dogs, as well as the personal development they have found in partnering with their dogs on visits.
