The Role of the Veterinary Death Doula in End-of-Life Care

An exploration of how death doula practices can enrich veterinary medicine, offering families guidance, ritual, and compassionate support through their companion animals’ final moments.

Dr. Ken Gorczyca, DVM, is a veterinarian, death doula, and artist who pioneers compassionate, heart-centered approaches to companion animal end-of-life care. He is also the founding veterinarian of Pets Are Wonderful Support (PAWS), a transformative San Francisco movement that redefined the human–animal bond during the AIDS pandemic
