Integrating animal-assisted interventions into rehabilitation for individuals with traumatic brain injury

Animal assisted interventions have the potential to increase therapy engagement in individuals recovering from traumatic brain injuries. This presentation discusses the development and findings of a study performed during pediatric acute rehabilitation sessions and the implication of these findings on therapy practice and beyond.

Miranda Yelvington is an Occupational Therapist and Rehabilitation Research Coordinator at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock. She is certified by the American Burn Association as a Certified Burn Therapist (BT-C), Board Certified by the American Occupational Therapy Association in Physical Rehabilitation, and holds a Brain Injury Specialty Certification. For the last 25 years, she has been practicing at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, specializing in Burn Rehabilitation.
