Janette is a researcher at the University of South Australia whose research focuses on the intersections of human health and animal lives in particular pet animals. She has had a varied career starting out as a Social Worker in community aged care, then policy and planning work and then academia. People and pets has been a theme across her own life and in her work. She is particularly interested in how to balance both human and animal needs, experiences and rights with human interests. She has 2 books, numerous chapters, journal articles, conference presentations and a range of popular media articles on her pet :) topic. She is regularly invited to speak publicly on human relationships with pets and is on the Board of Animal Therapies Ltd, the organization established to bring practitioners and researchers together in the fast growing Animal Services Sector in Australia. She shares her multi-species life with two dogs, one husband and numerous foster cats, kittens and bunnies. PS this is Jack – her now elderly Papillion puppy.
