This webinar will address evolution in autism terminology and representations. Advances in research, directed towards participatory research, will be discussed to situate these changes and needs expressed by the autism community. Studies related to the use of service dogs and animal assisted interventions (incl. equine assisted therapy) for youth on the autism spectrum will be discussed as an aid to alleviate stress and encourage adaptation to various contexts. A testimony of an autistic adult will illustrate an experience reported in the scientific literature related to social stigma and the use of a service dog.
